Xash3D-FWGS engine port with full Half-Life 1 support for AmigaOS4
Version: 1.4
Description:
Xash3D-HalfLife is a native AmigaOS4 port of the Xash3D-FWGS engine (a modern,
open-source re-implementation of Valve's GoldSrc engine) with full support for
playing Half-Life 1, and partial support for the official expansions Opposing
Force and Blue Shift.
What's new:
Added a native Mesa OpenGL renderer ("Mesa" in StartXash), talking directly to
mesa.library instead of going through Warp3D Nova or MiniGL. On an AmigaOne
X5000
with a Radeon RX 580 this is a massive performance jump: up to 400+ FPS at
peaks,
never dropping below 100 FPS in normal gameplay, and never below 60 FPS even in
worst-case scenes.
This package includes:
The Xash3D-FWGS engine, natively compiled for AmigaOS4/PPC
StartXash, a ReAction GUI launcher for choosing renderer, resolution, display
mode, language and game/mod folder
A graphical, page-based installer (Installation Utility / package.py based) that
copies the engine bundle and your own Half-Life game data into one ready-to-play
folder
Native AmigaOS4 game libraries (hl.so, opfor.so, bshift.so, client.so) for
Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift
Multiple renderer backends: native Mesa (mesa.library), GLES2 (HQ, Warp3D Nova),
gl4es, MiniGL and a pure software renderer as universal fallback
Optional support for HD model packs and HD wall/floor/ceiling texture packs
(materials/common)
Full AmigaGuide documentation (English/German) covering hardware
recommendations, installation, renderer choice, HD packs, mods/expansions and
licensing
IMPORTANT - you need your own copy of Half-Life:
This package does NOT include any Half-Life game data. Xash3D-FWGS is only an
engine; you must supply a legally owned copy of Half-Life yourself. Supported
sources are:
Half-Life via Steam (current version) - recommended, fully supported
The original retail PC CD version, patched to v1.1.1.0 - fully supported
Old, unpatched WON-era retail CDs (the original 1998/1999 boxed CD before any
updates) use an older liblist.gam/pak0.pak format and are NOT fully supported,
even with workarounds.
Simply copy the "valve" folder (and valve_german / valve_hd if present) from an
existing Windows or Mac installation onto the Amiga (USB stick or network share)
and point the installer at it.
Hardware / renderer recommendations:
AmigaOne X5000 + Radeon RX 580 Mesa (native) - best performance, GLES2 (HQ) or
gl4es as alternatives
AmigaOne X1000 GLES2 or gl4es (Nova)
Sam460 / classic AmigaOne / Pegasos II MiniGL, Software fallback
QEMU Software renderer, or -ati-vga
Mods and expansions:
valve Half-Life fully supported via installer
gearbox Half-Life: Opp. Force Amiga libs included, copy Steam/retail expansion
data yourself
bshift Half-Life: Blue Shift Amiga libs included, copy Steam/retail expansion
data yourself
Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress Classic, Deathmatch Classic and
Ricochet are not supported yet.
Licensing:
The Xash3D-FWGS engine is licensed under the GNU GPL v3. Third-party components
(SDL2, gl4es, Opus/Ogg/Vorbis, bzip2, fonts) are under their own respective
licenses; see licenses/README.txt after installation for the full list.
Half-Life game data itself remains the property of Valve and is not
redistributed with this package - you must own a legal copy.

Support / Donations:
This was a very time-consuming port to build - from the engine itself, through
graphics driver adjustments, to the installer. If you enjoy it and would like to
support the work, donations are very much appreciated:

Thanks to walkero for the Docker build environment, kas1e for Mesa, and afxgroup
for clib4 - this port would not have been possible without their work.
