Try to add in GUI prefs -> Gadgets, General tab a Background texture image. 
 
IIRC it's a bug (already fixed) in window.class or can't remember gadget.

If I use this theme the DiskImageGUI 53.4 freezes on startup for whatever reason. Any idea?

I don't like much flat themes usually but staring at this one a little while, it's actually quite cool.
