Claws Mail is an email client based on GTK+. The appearance and interface are
designed to be familiar to new users coming from other popular email clients,
as well as experienced users. Almost all commands are accessible with the
keyboard. The messages are managed in the standard MH format, which features
fast access and data security. Emails received or written with Sylpheed can be
easily imported.

Lots of extra functionality, like an RSS aggregator or a calendar, are provided
by extra plug-ins. Most of them are compiled in the claws-mail binary. Because
of serious problems while porting the library "libetpan", support of the proto-
cols IMAP4 and NNTP is not included!

New to 3.9.2r2 compared to the first release:
---------------------------------------------

  * The program was linked with GTK+ 2.24.32. As a result, drag and drop now
    works among other things. Mails can now be moved with the mouse and much
    more.

  * The program was linked with GnuTLS 3.6.13. Problems with SSL/TLS connections
    should now be resolved.

  * Mail addresses and personal data can now be determined using LDAP. For this
    Claws-Mail was linked with openldap 2.4.49.

  * New release 5 of the Python package v2.7.2 with GTK+ 2.24.32.

  * The included Aspell catalogs in German and English for spell checking have
    been updated.

  * Successfully tested with gmail.


New to 3.9.2 compared to 3.7.1:

  * New plug-ins:

   - pdf_viewer: Provides the ability to display attached PDF files in the mail
                 window.
   - python:     Enables the inclusion of scripts written in the Python
                 programming language.

   * The SSL/TLS support for receiving and sending mails has been updated.

   * The start scripts and the icon set have been updated. Claws Mail
     can thereby be e.g. now also be started individually on the Workbench.

   * Updated tool "bogofilter" for detecting spam mail.

   * The plug-in "gtkhtml2_viewer" has been removed, unfortunately it does not
     work anymore.

  a) standard plug-ins

     * address_keeper

       Inserts all recipient addresses in an address book folder.

     * archive

       This plug-in provides Claws Mail with the ability to archive. You can
       select a mail folder that you want to archive, and then specify the name,
       format, and location of the archive. Subfolders can be included and MD5
       checksums for each file can be added to the archive. Various archiving
       options are available.

       Supported archive formats: TAR, SHAR, CPIO and PAX.
       Supported compression formats: GZIP / ZIP and BZIP2.

     * att_remover

       This plug-in removes attachments from e-mails.

     * attachwarner

       Warns the user if an attachment was mentioned in the mail but no file is
       attached.

     * bogofilter

       Allows scanning of POP or LOCAL incoming mail using Bogofilter
       (https://bogofilter.sourceforge.io/). The Bogofilter software is included
       in this package and will be installed automatically.

       IMPORTANT:

       Bogofilter only works if you have already learned enough emails as spam
       AND as ham ("good" emails). To do this, it is best to mark a few emails
       and then mark them as spam via the menu item "Message / Mark / Mark as
       Spam" or via "Message / Mark / Mark as Ham (no Spam)" as desired mail.

     * bsfilter

       Enables the scanning of mail received via POP or LOCAL using Bsfilter
       (https://en.osdn.net/projects/bsfilter/).

       The software Bsfilter is NOT included in this package.

     * clamd

       This plug-in uses Clam AntiVirus to check all messages received via POP
       or LOCAL.

       If it is detected that an attachment contains a virus, it can be deleted
       or stored in a separate folder.

       The software Clam AntiVirus is NOT included in this package.

     * fetchinfo

       This plug-in modifies the downloaded messages. It adds the following
       information to the headers:
       UIDL, name of the account in Claws Mail, POP server, user ID and time of
       download.

     * mailbox

       This plug-in enables the handling of mailboxes in mbox format.

     * newmail

       This plug-in writes a summary of the headers of each received email after
       sorting into a log file.

       The log is located in "Cygnix:Home/root/Mail/NewLog"

     * pdf_viewer

       This plug-in allows the display of PDF and PostScript attachments using
       the Poppler 0.24.5 library and the gs (Ghostscript) program, which should
       be located in the OS4 utilities.

     * python

       This plug-in allows the integration of Python. Python code can be
       interactively entered into an integrated Python console or stored in
       scripts.

       These scripts are then available via the menu. They can be assigned
       keyboard shortcuts. But they can also be inserted into the toolbars via
       the integrated toolbar editor.

       Python plug-ins must be located in the directory

         "Cygnix:Home/root/.claws-mail/python-scripts"

       There are already some demo plug-ins, which are divided into the
       following directories or categories:

       - "auto": Contains scripts that started on certain events.
                 The following scripts are recognized:

                 * "startup":  Run when the plug-in starts.
                 * "shutdown": Will be executed when closing the plug-in.

       - "compose": Contains scripts that affect the editor window.

       - "main": Contains scripts that affect the main window.

       To view the API documentation, select the menu item "Help / Python API
       documentation" or enter

         help (Claws Mail)

       into the interactive Python console (menu item "Tools / Open Python
       Console").

     * rssyl

       This plug-in allows you to create a mailbox tree to which you can add
news
       feeds in RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0 or Atom format.

       Each newsfeed creates a folder with the corresponding entries that are
       retrieved from the web. You can read, delete and keep old entries.

     * spamassassin

       Enables scanning of POP or LOCAL incoming mail via SpamAssassin
       (https://spamassassin.apache.org).

       The SpamAssassin software is NOT included in this package.

     * spam report

       This plug-in reports spam to different places.
       Currently the following pages or methods are supported:

       - spam-signal.fr
       - spamcop.net
       - lists.debian.org nomination system

     * tnef_parse

       Lets you read attachments in application / ms-tnef

  b) extra plug-ins

     * notification_plugin 0.31

       This plug-in offers several ways to inform the user about new and unread
       mails.


Missing / not working
---------------------

  * action function to work with external commands
  * Drag & Drop (system bug)
  * PGP signature / encryption (requires GPGME)


Installation
------------

  The X11 environment AmiCygnix version 1.6 (or higher) must be installed
  before! AmiCygnix is available on OS4-depot (http://os4depot.net).

  To install the package, just click on the "Install"-icon. The data will be
  installed into the AmiCygnix package. Afterwards you can find the programs in
  "Cygnix:Software/Claws-Mail-3.9.2". To launch the program doubleclick on
  "Start_Claws-Mail_Desktop.bat" or "Start_Claws-Mail_Standalone.bat".
